Charity Spotlight: World Food Programme

Table of Contents

Our spotlight today is on one of our farthest reaching charity partners the World Food Programme (WFP). WFP, according to their website, is the food aid arm of the United Nations system. Food aid is one of the many instruments that can help to promote food security, which is defined as access to all people at all times to the food needed for an active and healthy life.

They do this through food assistance, food assets, and school meals, just to name a few. The assistance is meant to save lives in refugee and other emergency situations; to improve the nutrition and quality of life of the most vulnerable people at critical times in their lives; and to help build assets and promote the self-reliance of poor people and communities, particularly through labor-intensive works programs.

They work in dozens of countries around the world. You can see a full list here http://www.wfp.org/countries. So whether you’re logging Charity Miles in the United States or China, you’re making a difference for people around the world.

Log some of your miles for WFP this week to help fight hunger worldwide.
