Every day we like to shine a spotlight on people doing amazing work- both with Charity Miles and without. Today we’re featuring Michael Edmonds, a 19-year-old who recently lost an astounding 97 lbs!
As his sister Dara told us: “I feel like [Charity Miles] has really inspired my brother to run (he just ran his first 10 miles the other day!) He really wanted to do a half-marathon for Breast Cancer Awareness month but he lives in such a small town and there wasn’t one happening. I suggested he do one himself and he took it another step further. He will run his first half-marathon at the end of the month and all the money he raises will be donated to to a local clinic in Elizabeth City, NC that offers vouchers for mammograms for women who do not have insurance."
What is your greatest accomplishment as of late?
My latest and greatest accomplishment is the fact I used to weigh 280lbs and now I’m currently 183lbs.
How did you achieve it?
I achieved this by realizing I was almost 300lbs. I then started running, working out, and eating healthier.
What motivates you to make the world a better place?
My motivation to make the world a better place is the fact that I see us in so much chaos and I just wish we could all be united.
What do you do to stay healthy and fit?
The things I do to stay in shape are: running, jump roping, pull ups, sit ups, and lots of fruits and veggies.
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?
I’ve gotten two great pieces of advice. One is: "Where there’s a will, there’s a way”. The other is: “It’s always darkest before the light of day”. I try to always remember these when I get discouraged.
What’s your favorite aspect of using Charity Miles?
I absolutely love Charity Miles. How many places will let you help feed children or raise money for cancer and ask for nothing in return?
Who do you exercise for, and why?
I excercise for my future self, to make sure I live a healthy lifestyle. But I also run for everybody who doesn’t think they can. I hope people see what I’ve done and realize its not outside of your realm of possibility. Trust me it can be done, I promise. So everybody just remember where there’s a will there’s a way.
