Every day we like to shine a spotlight on people doing amazing work- both with Charity Miles and without. Today we’re featuring Kristin Dignen, a 19 year-old worship leader and guitarist. Kristin says: “I love helping, giving, and serving people. I am currently in college to become a nurse. My biggest dream is to be a missionary nurse all over the world in different countries. I live to serve. I live to love. I live to sing. I live to give and I live to run.”
What is your greatest accomplishment as of late?
I collected over 200 birthday cards that were made by some friends that are being distributed to homeless shelters throughout Georgia. It’s amazing what can happen when people come together!
How did you achieve it?
By simply telling people what the cause was for. People were getting right to it. It’s so awesome seeing other people care as much as you do!
What motivates you to make the world a better place?
Simply the fact that I can. I CAN make a difference if I put my mind and heart in it. It doesn’t matter what you do or how much you do it. As long as you try hard, you can achieve anything. Another thing is people. When I see people less fortunate than me, with a handicap, or sick, or elderly, it makes me want to strive even more to make a difference. There’s so much out there that needs to be done but I know I can simply start making a difference by saying hey to a stranger, helping someone out or even praying for someone. Those things that people don’t see you do can really make a difference.
What do you do to stay healthy and fit?
To stay healthy and fit, I run and workout. I usually always eat healthy. My favorite food is salad so it’s kind of hard to eat anything else!
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?
“Whatever you do, do for the audience of one.” I’m not here on this earth to prove anything to anybody. I’m not here to show off or get someone’s approval. Whenever I do something, I’m constantly reminding myself that this is for an audience of one. I’m running for Jesus.
What’s your favorite aspect of using Charity Miles?
My favorite aspect of using Charity Miles is the fact that while you’re running, biking, or walking, you’re raising money for your organization right away. So not only are you doing something for yourself, but you’re making a difference right away! That’s amazing!
Who do you exercise for, and why?
I exercise for the people that can’t. A couple years ago I volunteered at a place called Give Kids The World. It’s a place where kids and their family go when their children are close to dying. I will never forget seeing the kids in wheelchairs. They had the biggest smiles on their faces and they were unable to walk. When I run, I picture them. I picture them running beside me one day while we’re in heaven. I picture them crossing the finish line with me cheering me on saying,“You go Kristin!” They made a huge impact on me. Miracles DO happen. Maybe one day I’ll be running with them!
