Every day we like to shine a spotlight on people doing amazing work- both with Charity Miles and without. Today we’re featuring Cassandra and Cassara Armstrong. In Cassandra’s words: “I’m simply a cancer mom wanting to help raise money to find a cure for cancer. I began this journey in June of 2010 when my daughter just turned seven years old and instead of getting a birthday present she was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia. Ever since then we (our family) have been advocates for LLS and will continue to do so until we can wake up one morning and all over the news will read “A Cure For Cancer has been Found!”

What is your greatest accomplishment as of late?

We just did our ‘Light the Night Walk’ for LLS and my team personally raised over $2300.

How did you achieve it?

We achieved it by having fundraisers throughout our hometown and just seeking out donations.

What motives you to make the world a better place?

My daughter Cassara motivates me. Without her being diagnosed with leukemia, I would have never known that kids get cancer too. Now we not only raise money on her behalf but also for the families we have met along the way. We have also created a sticker drive called “Cassara’s Stickin it to Cancer.” It’s where we collect packages of stickers and personally deliver them to other cancer patients at her hospital.

What do you do to stay healthy and fit?

My family and I try to make a point to get out and take walks when we get the chance and eat more fruit.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?

Never ever give up.

What’s your favorite aspect of using Charity Miles?

The best part of Charity Miles is knowing with every step I take I’m raising money for LLS.

Who do you exercise for, and why?

I mainly exercise for my kids. They need to know exercise is fun and not just a class at school. They don’t need to know they are actually exercising when they dance around the house listening to music. I also do it for myself. I want to live a long and healthy life watching both my girls grow old.
