Every day we like to shine a spotlight on people doing amazing work — both with Charity Miles and without. Today we’re featuring Kaitlin Boland, a 25-year-old theater lover living and working in NYC who went from zero miles to a half marathoner!
Here’s what she had to say:
What is your greatest accomplishment as of late?
Though it was a few months ago now, running the Broad Street Run in Philadelphia. Up to that day, I had never run that far (hit a few bumps during training), and I couldn’t believe how great I felt running that day!
How did you achieve it?
Through the encouragement of many others and a HUGE belief in myself!
What motivates you to make the world a better place?
Running has motivated me to make the world a better place as I am always running for someone and/or a charity whether through races or through Charity Miles. Something I thought I could never do is now my biggest motivator.
What do you do to stay healthy and fit?
I try to run as much as possible along with eating right. I can definitely tell the difference when I am not doing either of those things correctly.
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?
Never say never! As cliche as that sounds, I have discovered my ability to do things I previously thought I would never be able to do. A friend of mine let me know if she could do it, I could do it. I originally thought never but here I am today.
What’s your favorite aspect of using Charity Miles?
Charity Miles is such a great motivator. While I may always be running in someone’s honor, Charity Miles makes that a reality every time I run! Also just walking places can make a difference which is amazing.
Who do you exercise for, and why?
While I exercise for myself, I also exercise for many different people who have endured cancer, some who are no longer with us today. These are the people who got me running in the first place, and I will continue to run for them until there is a cure!
