Every day we like to shine a spotlight on people doing amazing work — both with Charity Miles and without. Today we’re featuring Nicklaus Combs, an ultra runner, beard grower, plant eater and part of the Merrell Pack and Further Faster Forever community.
Here’s what he had to say:
What is your greatest accomplishment as of late?
A little over a year ago, I could barely run 10 miles. A close friend died last May which sent me into a tailspin and I decided to set a goal for myself. On June 1, I accomplished that goal by running across the finish line of the Kettle Moraine 100-miler.
How did you achieve it?
Never telling myself I couldn’t do it. Hard work and determination are all I have on my side, and they go a long way.
What motivates you to make the world a better place?
The desire to be a decent person. The little things we do on a day-by-day basis really add up over time. If I can contribute in making someone’s life better, why wouldn’t I?
What do you do to stay healthy and fit?
Simple, clean, plant-based eating and logging the miles day in and day out.
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?
I really love this quote and it really motivates me to get outside everyday: “We take these risks not to escape life, but to prevent life from escaping us.”
What’s your favorite aspect of using Charity Miles?
Turn the app on. Go run. Raise money. It’s that simple. There’s no excuse for not using it.
Who do you exercise for, and why?
I run for those who can’t also to protect the places we play, so I split my time evenly between the Wounded Warrior Project and The Nature Conservancy.
