This week’s Humana Health Star is Tracy Sachs, hailing from the great State of Missouir!

Tracy loves to stay active by running outside through the beautiful parks of St. Louis. And she is particularly inspired by her high school friend who, though passed, served as a great model for always striving to be better and stronger than you were yesterday.

That’s beautiful, Tracy.  Keep up the great work!

Name: Tracy Sachs

Age: 37

City: St. Louis, Missouri

What’s your favorite way to stay active? Running and walking outside, training for 5ks with my family and friends.

What charities do you like to support with Charity MilesMy favorite charity is the Wounded Warrior Project. It’s the least I can do to give back to the heroes and their families for all they sacrifice to protect us and our country.

What’s your greatest accomplishment– active or otherwise? The Wounded Warrior Project 8k in Colorado Springs last August. It gave me a purpose to train all summer and I met the most beautiful and awesome people when I got there!

What/who inspires you to stay healthy/make a difference? Every day I am inspired to wake up early and run in honor and memory of my friend, Will Bushelle. He passed in a fatal car accident last February. Will and I went to high school together and I used to go on adventures with him, his brother, Borbbie, and my brother– exploring the paths of the pocket woods in the suburbs where we grew up.  Will was on his way to becoming a hero as a teenager after he saved the life of a girl in my class. He had a social gift, often making best friends with strangers the first time meeting him.  He also was the ultimate role model of leadership and physical fitness. After his passing, a group of his friends– many of which had never met before– came together and started the #Willverines, encouraging one another to challenge ourselves to be better and stronger than we were yesterday. That’s what #IW4W means: “I will for Wil.” It’s on all my twitter posts each time I get out there. It’s because of Will that I am the best version of myself today.

Where is your favorite place to walk, run or bike? My favorite park is Forrest Park. It is rich in St. Louis history, was the host of the 1904 World’s Fair, and it contains some of St. Louis’ best attractions such as the St. Louis Art Museum, St. Louis Science Center, Missouri History Museum, The Muny outdoor theater and the St. Louis Zoo!

Where is one place you’d most like to walk, run or bike? I would love to walk and run in Central Park, NYC!!

Do you have any tips for others on how to take steps towards improving their well-being? A great way to start the day and charge your battery is by getting out early in the morning! Nothing beats the crisp air and magical light of dawn. Helps me to focus on the day ahead, clear my mind and energize my body!!

Do you like to exercise alone or with friends?  Last spring, I started training with one of my best friends, Virginia. It’s because of her that I turned into a morning person because we would meet and log miles before work. She recently had knee surgery so I’ve been going alone which is nice too. However, I’m looking forward to training with her again soon!

What are your health/fitness goals? I’d like to participate in a Ragnar Relay Race with the #Willverines team!

Are there any recipes on the Humana Pinterest Board you’d like to share? I want to try the Hearty Autumn-inspired Roasted Carrot Hummus and the Mini Pumpkin Cupcakes.

What’s one thing Humana can do to help you live a healthier lifestyle?  I love that I can run, walk and bike for my favorite charities with Charity Miles. Thanks to Humana for sponsoring me and making it possible!

Can you tell us a bit about yourself in your own words? I work full time at a St. Louis shoe company designing slippers for Hush Puppies and Tempur-Pedic. My mom and I also own a company called Tracy Sachs Limited, where I design cheerful fabrics that are manufactured into 100% cotton napkins, placemats and oven mitts.  My interest in healthy recipes originated from researching recipes for my Facebook blog.  And I started using Charity Miles because my friend Virginia told me about it and helped me get registered with the #Willverines team.
